"The Baileys system has proven time and again to be the best way for us to get our yearlings into the condition required to consistently turn heads and stand out from the crowd in the sale ring."
Paul Thorman, Trickledown Stud

For the last two decades, Baileys has been developing and producing quality horse feed, catering for all walks of equine life. Based on the nutritional requirements of the horse from conception, through competition and into retirement, the Baileys Stud Range provides a balanced diet. Baileys offer a complete service, supporting quality products with expert equine nutritionists, available to work with the customer to optimise performance.

Baileys has an association with Don Kapper, the leading American equine nutritionist, who is Director of Nutrition and Technical Services at Progressive Nutrition, Iowa, USA, which is a subsidiary of Provimi, the world’s leading supplier of animal nutrition technology. This gives Baileys access to the extensive research that he and Progressive Nutrition are undertaking, allowing us to continue to take equine nutrition forward in the 21st century.

Baileys were pioneers of the concept of Total Ration Balancing, a flexible feeding and monitoring programme created to provide the optimum nutritional environment for any horse at any time in its development. A Total Balanced Ration is one containing a compound ration which complements the nutrient levels in forage, so that together, they meet all the horse’s nutritional requirements to optimise genetic growth and performance potential. Feeding a stud ration from conception, at a nutritional level greater than the mare requires for herself, is an integral part of the Baileys philosophy of giving the foal the best possible nutritional start in life.

"We feed Stud Balancer to our broodmares throughout the year, keeping them in peak condition to produce strong healthy foals in the spring."
Walter Cowe, Hascombe Stud

Baileys’ Growth Monitoring Chart is based on the relationship between age and bodyweight, is designed to monitor growth rate and can be used to estimate nutritional requirements according to mature bodyweight. The chart can highlight situations of rapid or slow growth, indicating that adjustments to the diet should be made to try and reduce the risk of Developmental Orthopaedic Disease occurring.

Using a combination of the Growth Monitoring Chart and Total Ration Balancing, breeding stock are given the best possible chance of receiving the optimum nutrition which is so crucial at this stage of development.

"We cannot alter the genetic make-up of the horse, but we can give it the best possible chance of fulfilling its inherited potential."
Don Kapper BSc, Equine Nutritionist, Progressive Nutrition USA
