Suddenly it's springtime, although the weather may not always give this impression, and foaling time has come around again. Whilst nature has successfully provided grass for nursing mothers in the animal kingdom for eons, we have come to expect more from our equine athletes than those bred 50 years ago.

With improved genetics and training, horses have the ability to mature earlier, run faster, jump higher and in some cases we look for increased size to match performance. Nutrition has to match ability and performance. Horses and ponies of all ages and stages, just like children, can more easily attain their true potential if fed a suitable diet. No Premier League footballer spent his childhood eating a diet of chip butties, sitting glued to the television!

While a certain amount of good luck helps when producing top class horses or ponies, by and large hard work and attention to detail plays a greater part in success. Equally Baileys have not left it to luck when producing their well known Stud Range. The key products are Stud Mix, Stud Cubes, Stud Balancer, Foal Creep Pellets, Mare’s Milk Replacer and Foal Assist, are all top specification products, made to help maximise the genetic potential in breeding, growing horses and ponies of all ages and stages - no corners cut, no stone left unturned in the quest for excellence. Used by breeders around the world, it is important to Baileys that every breeder, from a large commercial stud to the single mare outfit, can benefit from our expertise.

Forage, in the form of grass, hay or haylage, is the most important part of any horse’s diet but grass, in any form, is not a complete ration. Due to modern farming practices, high levels of stock, water logging, poaching, over zealous use of
fertilisers etc, grass alone will not necessarily meet the present or future requirements of the performance horse. Baileys feeds will help balance the diet to give a solid nutritional base on which to grow the youngster for which you hold such high hopes. There is an enormously high under-achievement/wastage rate in both the Thoroughbred and sports horse industries and much of it is due to feeding. In some cases this is due to over feeding, but in many more it is simply poor nutrition. Deficiencies or excesses are detrimental to both health and performance in both man and horse; get the diet right and you are a step closer to success.

Confidence in your chosen feed is important. Those offered by Baileys Horse Feeds are backed by not only world renowned nutritional science but also (and very importantly, as Mother Nature has not always read the 'handbook'!) their feeds are supported by the personal experience of owning and successfully running a Thoroughbred stud. Baileys' MD runs a small broodmare band with foals and yearlings being sold at Newmarket or put in training to race. This experience gives a greater meaning to knowledge.
This 'hands on' experience added to nutritional research helps to make Baileys a world class feed.

Though not all of us want to breed a racing machine - some just want the pleasure of a foal from a much loved mare - this foal will benefit from Baileys’ experience too. All horses and ponies are important to Baileys, from the most humble beginnings of a small pony to the blue blooded Derby winner, they all deserve the best start in life - the Baileys start!
